cold process soap
mindfully made in new england
with organic + wild harvested plants
That last day. We were standing on what felt like the edge of the world, cliffside at Muriwai Beach, New Zealand. Our rental car doors were open, music was playing, and we looked down at the black sand beach, trying to wrap our minds around the journey that was ending. That was our last destination after living out of suitcases for the past eight months - just the two of us - planning as we went along. I had no idea what to expect when we boarded the flight back to New England the next day. We had both quit our jobs and left the lease on our Boston studio. We were kind of broke, kind of had no place to live, and kind of terrified that we would never feel that happy again.
During that flight I thought of my soap making hobby. A pain point during our travels had been the massive plastic bottle of liquid soap we chose to lug around instead of packing some bars. I thought about the people and places we met. I also thought about the healing ingredients that come from our earth, and the multitude of properties a single one can have. Somewhere over the Pacific Ocean, everything changed.
That summer we obsessively researched, sourced, and tested the ingredients for a bar soap that would cleanse while truly keeping the skin nourished and hydrated. A bar that could provide the lathering qualities of liquid soap, but without the plastic packaging. By December, we launched Wild Lather. And that bar turned out to be a triangle.
We are proud to offer a mindful option for an everyday product with the hope that one day it is no longer considered the alternative. Our cold process soaps invoke a time-honored method into our daily cleansing ritual with a shape that represents a simple triangular breathing exercise: breathe in – hold – breathe out, to help bring a sense of calm and mindfulness to your shower or bath. We use carefully-sourced ingredients that are organic, unrefined, or wild-harvested, and are consistently shaping our business practices for a better tomorrow.
For every batch, we take our five plant oils: Coconut, Olive, Shea Butter, Camellia, and Castor, saponify them, then combine them with skin-nourishing ingredients such as naturally occurring clays and solar-infused botanicals. We then swirl in a house-blend of steam-distilled essential oils inspired by our travels. Nothing else (and that's the intention).
